When we talk about top brands, it’s logical they are leading the niches they are presented in and offer great devices. But you should also know those products are overpriced. And if you are not ready to pay a fortune for gadgets, then it’s better to look for alternatives. You can always think no second-tier brand can compete with the leaders. Moreover, most of you will think if it is not Apple, Sony, Samsung, and the likes, then it is not worthy to talk about. Many have been thinking so about Xiaomi. But look what it has turned into. Well, this brand has already proven it deserves its place under the sun. And we are proud we have been there when it began its way. As for now, we are going to introduce to you another amazing brand – iTeknic. Honestly, we have reviewed a product coming our way from this company. It was a pair of Bluetooth headphones, providing up to 24 hours of music playback on a single charge. As for now, we are going to test the iTeknic Active Noise-cancelling Headphones. As the name suggests, its biggest selling point is the noise activation. But be sure it’s not the only highlight. Plus, these headphones are priced under $100. Thus, they can be considered as one of the best alternatives to such beasts as the Sony WH-1000XM3.
We guess the iTeknic Active Noise-cancelling Headphones can’t compete with the Bose that done a tremendous job working out its noise-cancellation algorithm over the years or Sony that has spent that time perfecting audio playback while simultaneously creating an adaptability algorithm. But running forward, we can say these headphones are great in terms of price-over-performance ratio. Read on to find out why.
Obviously, one of the most attractive selling point of these headphones for us is its design. They are quite lightweight and well form-fitting. Many will think the headphones should be weighty to showcase their quality. This is not the case. We are guessing you will wear these headphones for a long time. So they should have a pressure on your ears and head. In this sense, the 278-grams weight of these headphones are ideal.
The other design element caught our attention is the new flush fit, which is more cushiony. This makes the headphones more comfortable but also significantly less dorky when they’re on your head. The company has also deepened the earcup.
You won’t find luxury materials or even much metal here. The headband is mostly plastic, and the padding and earcups are covered in synthetic fabrics. Thus, the company could reach a luxurious look by using relatively cheap materials. Shortly, the appearance of the iTeknic Active Noise-cancelling Headphones resembles the exterior of the old good Sony WH-1000XM3.
The right speaker cup is equipped with a volume control, an on/off/pairing button, microphone, 3.5mm audio jack, and a switch which activates the active noise canceling feature. There is also an LED used to signal Bluetooth connectivity and one which indicates activation of noise cancelling. The left speaker cup comes with a mini USB interface. As you guess, it’s placed there for charging.
The iTeknic Active Noise-cancelling Headphones is available in black only.
iTeknic Active Noise-cancelling Headphones Performance
Of course, we are buying a pair of noise-cancelling headphones for one feature only. That is its ability to effectively block out noise. But before we test this feature, you should know a couple of things about it. There are two types of noise canceling systems. First, the passive noise canceling involves the use of materials in the ear cushions that deaden the outside world. In fact, it is quite useful. But, the most effective packing materials are very dense, adding extra weight to the headphones. Second, the active noise canceling technique uses the headset’s microphone to monitor outside noise. Then it creates sound waves that mimic the incoming noise in every respect except one. The iTeknic Active noise-canceling headphones provide a noise reduction of approximately 20Db, effectively blocking about 70% of ambient noise. These headphones are ideal for airline and train travel or any other location with a high level of background noise.
These headphones work great for air flow, fans, and engine noise because these sounds are constant. But we should also stress you’ll still be able to hear honking cars and snatches of loud conversation in close proximity. But again, we have not been expecting for the iTeknic Active Noise-canceling Headphones to handle every type of unwanted sound.
One of the biggest selling points of the iTeknic Active Noise-Canceling Headphones is the Bluetooth 5.0 support. Of course, it can also paired with earlier versions. Among the number of improvements made in Bluetooth 5.0, we should mention the extended distance of 240 meters. That’s helpful for a number of reasons. Say, you can pretty much walk around your house with the iTeknic Active Noise-canceling Headphones on, without having to take your smartphone or player with you. So, you could connect your headphones to your computer, and clean the house listening to music without having to worry about running into range issues.
In addition to a longer range, Bluetooth 5.0 also offers a high bandwidth. This is ideal for devices that need to transmit larger packets of data, such as higher quality audio. Unfortunately, this technology doesn’t include a standard for audio transmission. But this doesn’t mean it improves the audio quality itself.
iTeknic Active Noise-Canceling Headphones Battery
So how long will these headphones last on a charge? There are a lot of factors but, after a few days of testing, we found that it can last for over 24 hours. We are not naïve to say this is the best result we have ever seen, but it’s in line with the top models. What’s more interesting, according to the official introduction, the 500mAh battery of these headphones are capable of providing 15-20 hours of playtime. But the actual test showed a longer battery life.
As for the charging, it takes almost an hour to fully charge the battery. But a few minutes of charging brings 3 hours of playtime.
As for the mic, it’s serviceable for making voice calls. But agree not that many people are using such headphones to make calls. It can be used only when you have paired the headphones with your smartphone to listen to music or a podcast, and you accidentally get a call. Anyways, the microphone uses the cVc 6 (clear Voice capture). Plus, the noise reduction algorithms reduce ambient sound and enhance the voice of the caller.
About the manufacturer
We guess you are not familiar with iTeknic. So we decided to tell a couple of things about this China-based company. It has a number of sister labels, including Ravpower, TaoTronics, HooToo, and Vava. They all perform under a hardware company called Sunvalleytek. Probably, you have acquired a product from any of these brands.
The Final Words
Apart from the iTeknic Active Noise-canceling Headphones, the box contains a 3.5-millimeter auxiliary cable, guide, and a rather nice carrying case. Thus, you won’t need additional accessories after buying this headset. But should you buy it?
We recommend this product to all our readers because iTeknic Active Noise-canceling Headphones have a good look, supports Bluetooth 5.0, provides a long-lasting battery life, and has an ANC. For all these, you have to pay around $60. Isn’t it a finding?
